Over the years, my passion for pickleball has led me to share tips, techniques, and strategies freely with others who love the game as much as I do. Watching players improve and find joy in their progress has always been a reward in itself. But with the launch of the Rockport Pickleball Academy (RPA), I’m making a shift to a paid model for my lessons and clinics. This isn’t about charging for something I once gave away; it’s about taking my dedication to teaching to the next level and providing structured, professional support for those serious about advancing in pickleball. Here’s why I’m making this change.
1. Value for Both the Student and Teacher
When something is free, it’s easy for people to take it lightly or miss out on its true value. Charging for lessons adds a sense of commitment and accountability for both of us. By investing financially, students are more likely to invest mentally and physically, putting in the effort needed to improve. I’m dedicated to giving my all in every lesson, and when students are equally committed, the results can be exceptional.
2. Building a Structured and Professional Academy
The Rockport Pickleball Academy isn’t just about lessons; it’s about creating an enriching, structured learning environment where people at all levels can benefit from expert guidance. To provide consistent, high-quality instruction, I need resources for equipment, facilities, and educational tools that enhance the learning experience. A paid model allows RPA to operate professionally, offering the best value to students.
3. Recognition of Expertise and Experience
As my experience in both playing and teaching pickleball has grown, so has the depth of knowledge I bring to the court. I’ve invested time and energy into honing my skills as a player and coach, and I’m now an IPTPA Level 2 instructor. This certification signifies a commitment to excellence in teaching, and with it comes the responsibility—and the right—to be compensated for the value I provide. Paid lessons acknowledge the expertise I bring and the quality of instruction students can expect at RPA.
4. Time and Energy Investment
Running an academy is a substantial commitment, and I want to be able to dedicate my full energy and focus to each student I work with. Offering lessons for free often meant balancing time spent on instruction with other responsibilities, but with RPA, teaching pickleball is my primary focus. A paid model allows me to put my time and energy where it truly matters, making sure every lesson, clinic, and event at RPA is as beneficial as possible for those involved.
5. Creating a Legacy in the Pickleball Community
The decision to start charging isn’t just about personal gain; it’s about establishing something that will last. With a sustainable model, RPA can grow into a long-standing community resource where players continually develop their skills. I’m committed to fostering a thriving pickleball community, and a financially supported academy helps ensure that RPA can expand, host events, and be a positive, lasting influence in the pickleball world.
Charging for my services is the next natural step, allowing me to bring more value to my students, grow RPA into a true academy, and create a sustainable legacy. I’m thrilled to share this journey with each of you and help more players achieve their best on the court!
